Learn how to create freaky paranormal movie scene with CRT photo effect using stock images. In this photo manipulation, I will walk you through the process of compositing stock images and how to use basic adjustments and show you how to use clipping mask and improve shadows and highlights and intensity of the scene.

Step-1
Open the background image.
Create fog:
Step-2
Create a new layer and fill it with white color and set opacity to 15%.
Mask the first two pillers.
Step-3
Duplicate the fog layer for more density and mask the area at the front.
Smoke effect:
Step-4
Create a new layer and fill it with white color.
Add vector mask to the layer.
Select the “layer mask thumbnail”.
Go to Filter >> Render >> Clouds and you get the result like this.
Step-5
Keep the current layer in a folder. (keep the current layer active and click on “create a new group” folder icon at the bottom of the layer panel)
Apply mask to the folder and mask out the unwanted parts in the following way…
Step-6
Import the girl image into the scene.
Step-7
Using Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, lets decrease saturation with following settings.
Select the adjustment layer and create clipping mask (Alt + Ctrl + G) so that it can affect only the girl layer.
You get the result like this..
Add shadows:
Step-8
Make selection of the girl.
Create a new layer and fill it with black color.
Step-9
Deselect the selection. (Ctrl + D)
keep the shadow layer active, go to Edit >> Transform >> Flip vertical and position the shadow like this…
Using a soft black brush, paint over the feet to give shadow effect.
Add Blood stains.
Step-10
Import the following splatter image into the scene.
Go to select >> color range and select the red color from the splatter image using eyedropper tool
Create a new layer and fill with red color (#5a1111) in the selection.
Using free transform tool (Ctrl + T) , place the blood stain in the following position and mask girl’s feet to keep the blood below her feet.
Set blending mode to “overlay”
To make the blood stains a bit darker, create a new layer with gray color (#808080), set blending mode to “overlay“ and using “Burn tool(O)” paint over the blood.
(keep the current layer active and create clipping mask (Atl + Ctrl + G).)
Step-11
In the same process, add blood stains to the scene.
Bring out dark shadows and highlights:
Step-12
Create a new layer with gray color (#808080). Set blending mode to “overlay”.
Using “Burn tool(O)” and ”Dodge tool (O)”, paint over the girl to bring out dark shadows and highlights respectively.
Highlight the scene at the center.
Step-13
Create a new gradient with following settings.
Select “Radial gradient”, create a new layer and draw radial gradient like this….
Set blending mode to “overlay”.
CRT Effect :
Step-14
By combining all the layers create new image layer (Ctrl + Alt + shift + E).
Keep the merged layer active, go to filter >> sketch >> halftone.
In halftone panel set the following properties :
Pattern type: Line
Size: 2
Contrast: 15
Lets increase the contrast using levels with following settings.
Set blending mode of the image to “Luminosity” and opacity to 50%.
Step-15
Finally set the color mode of the scene using photo filter.
